Doctorate Viva

Final Report and Viva Exhibition, June 23rd 2021

In June 2021 I completed my DFA Professional Doctorate at University of East London, with a Viva exhibition and an accompanying Final Report, called Animism and Absurdity. You can read the report here or by clicking the block immediately above this text.

The exhibition consisted of new work and two existing video works, one an ongoing collage time-lapse of City Island, 2015-present), and a stack of three monitors making a tower of three corridors. These older pieces can be seen documented elsewhere on this website and so this page is focussed on documenting the new work.

The new work was two live animation machines, Thrum II and Thrum III- spinning discs of repeating forms, captured with camera directly projecting large scale images onto walls or feeding to a video wall. Below are images captured during the show, which ran from June 22nd-27th under Covid restrictions.
